Whether you consider yourself a CrossFit newbie, competitor, enthusiast, fan, or community supporter, the CrossFit Open is for you. The CrossFit Open is one the highlights in the sports year for a CrossFit athlete. The open is 3 weeks long consisting of one workout or “test” a week. The Open is designed to be fun and challenging for athletes of any skill level. 

That’s because the Open takes on a special and unique meaning for each person who signs up. For some, the Open brings to life the why behind our daily commitment to CrossFit. Many of us came to CrossFit because we wanted more for our health and fitness, and the Open provides us with a way to stay accountable to this effort. For others, it’s a way to connect and celebrate with others in the CrossFit Gold Pact community.

Since the Open was first organised in 2011 it grew out to be a popular worldwide competition. You participate in the global event from your local box by submitting your scores after every workout on the website of the CrossFit Open.

The Open is seen as the start of the CrossFit sporting season. Top athletes hope to use the Open to reach a place in the CrossFit games, where they eventually battle for the prestigious title of Fittest on Earth.

Why should you join?

We asked some of our members how they experienced the CrossFit Open last year.

Why I join the Open? Obviously not because I think I have any chance of moving on to the Games. And also not because I want to see how I measure up against others in the world. For me the Open is a way to compete with myself. I notice that I'm making progress and training has made me more fit over the last year. But the most important reason for me to join is that I very much look forward to facing this challenge with my Gold Pact buddies, everyone on his own level. The game gives you that extra bit of magic that sometimes you lack during weekly training. That magic is awesome to feel and see in the others.

I participated in the Open last year after just having started Crossfit. And I'm already looking forward to seeing my progression! I'm looking forward to the 'gezelligheid', the extra push to work on your weak points and I like being able to see how everyone else is doing (people in the box, friends elsewhere, Tia-Clair Toomey?).

In the first place I join because of the buzz around the whole event, the team feeling! Besides that I like challenging myself to go that extra mile. Usually during the Open I manage to achieve things I normally might not be able to achieve because of all the encouragement.

How does it work?

The price for this is $20 for the whole event. Make sure to register in time to submit your first score.

Every week on Thursday evening, the workout details are published. On Saturday you are welcome to do the workout in the box. Make sure to register using the SportBit app, so we know how many people we can expect.

Frequently asked questions

No! The Open is for athletes of any skill level. And with the encouragement of the community anyone can exceed their goals! 

There are several different scales for each workout: Rx’d, scaled, foundations, or adaptive if you have a physical limitation. Curious to know what to expect from the Open workouts? Check out last years workouts.

You’re free to do the workout on your own from Friday morning until Monday. Just make sure to find a judge to join you. You can submit your score yourself on the website of the Open.

For sure! If you are not a member please send us an email at info@goldpact.nl and we’ll make sure to add you to the list!

This year joining the Open at Gold Pact is free on both Saturday and Sunday. This means we won’t take a credit from your account. If you want you can even join both days. Don’t forget that you’ll have to pay a small fee for the registration at CrossFit.

You’re more than welcome to cheer our athletes on! Our doors open around 9:00 and we expect the first heat to start between 9:30 and 10:00.
